Biography

alt

I was born on December 28th, 1957 and was always interested in music, from listening to early Beatles while I played with my Lincoln Logs and  Erector sets to learning how to play ukulele and writing my first song in the 8th grade. Besides listening to the top forty and Larry Ryan on KEEL radio, I had, from high school on, a real connection to melodic and harmonic classical music as well as the British bands who incorporated these styles. Two_ of my favorite albums were “Sgt. Pepper” and “Madman Across The Water” so I soaked in the Beatles, Elton John, Cat Stevens, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Yes, Emerson-Lake and Palmer, Traffic, Genesis, Donovan, Bee Gees, Gentle Giant, Peter Gabriel and Elvis Costello to name a few. On the American side there was always Crosby-Stills-Nash and Young, Jackson Browne, The Lovin’ Spoonful as well Jefferson Airplane, Spirit  and even Leo Kottke and Leonard Cohen.

In 1975 I earnestly began to write and sing my own songs and have done so to date. In 1983 after digging ditches and being an apprenticed laborer I started my professional career as a Petroleum Geologist of which I still am. After some success in 2004 I started my long- life dream of recording all the music in my head and “set it free”. I started my 1st record and named it “The 29th Dream”, which represented 29 years of writing music. I still perform locally on occasion and will soon have a private performance release party for the “29th Dream” and within the year will release my second recording entitled “Leather And Wood”. I hope that you will listen and let meknow what you think.

About Tim Marshall's Music.

Remember what it was like to be a kid? You would spend all day dreaming about what you would do when you grew up. Whether you wanted to be an engineer, a musician, or even walk on the moon; it didn’t matter as long as you dreamed and dreamed big. For one reason or another we get older, life becomes more complicated, and we tend to fall into relatively ordinary lives. We oftentimes forget just how precious the gift of imagination is and what it was like to just get lost in a moment, a thought, or a fantasy. Now on rare occasions some of us get a second chance to find our inner self and remember that life is far from ordinary if you only dare to dream. Those people who choose to do so become an inspiration, giving hope to the mundane and offering an escape from the self imposed prisons of which we reside.

Tim Marshall is one of those people. Having grown up in a particularly musically rich time in our history he found moments of serenity and escape in records such as “Sergeant Pepper” and “Mad Man Across The Water”. Artist like The Beatles, Cat Stevens, and Jethro Tull were a regular part of his life and are partially responsible for the vast eclecticism and surreal nature found in the music he produces today. “Music’s purpose is to transcend and send you into a dream state”, Tim says, and dream he did.

It was obvious that his fascination and intrigue had developed into full blown aspirations as he quickly developed into a musician at a young age. Tim wrote his first song in the 8th grade and continued to cultivate his ideas and lyrical thoughts for years and years but was never afforded the opportunity record them into song.

Instead, as time would see it Tim’s life began to take a much different path. He never lost touch with the musician at heart, but dreams would have to make way for a more consistent reality. He worked hard for many years trying on several hats until he settled in to his current profession as a Petroleum Geologist.

You see while it always played an important role in his life it wasn’t until much later that he would have the opportunity to follow his dreams and produce music of his own.Though established in his field and somewhat content in his day to day world Tim’s mind was still a wash with creativity and a passion for music that had been cultivated as that little boy, alone in his room, listening to “Sergeant Pepper and The Lonely Hearts Club”. Finally, Tim found himself in a position to turn his thoughts into music and his music into inspiration and escape for all those who will listen. He recorded his first album entitled “The 29th Dream”, which is essentially a musical timeline and soundtrack to his life as its inspiration was garnered from thoughts and experiences that took a lifetime to articulate. He is currently in the studio working diligently on his Sophomore album which is sure to once again beckon listeners into a “Dream State” of surreal musical indulgences full of passion, truth, and soul.
